Otto, Uber’s Advanced Technologies division, presented its new model of a testing truck with autonomous driving hardware installed on it. The novelty version includes updated technological solutions with a 64-channel spinning LiDAR system among them. The new tech version is quite different from anything used previously on Otto’s former test trucks. The new design lidar is standard equipment, utilized by other companies in the branch. It’s most likely Velodyne HDL-64E according to specifications and design but this info isn’t anyhow confirmed.
In addition to the aforementioned spinning LiDAR, the new ATG truck is completely refreshed with tech equipment which includes other upgraded components and dedicated software used throughout the vehicle. This design is completely different from previously used on Otto’s trucks, including the famous instance of autonomous Budweiser beer freight shipment, which, in fact, brought a Guinness World Record to the company for “the longest continuous journey by a driverless and autonomous semitrailer truck.”
