Representatives of Toyota Motor Corp. declared the intention to create the research company with the emphasis on artificial intelligence in Silicon Valley. According to them, such company needs creation as the competition on the development of cars with the automatic control system amplifies.
The most successful producer of cars in the world plans to invest $1 billion in R&D within five years to improve the positions in the development of the automated engines.
At a press conference, the head of Toyota Motor reported that they were going to continue to work on the automated engine until it becomes better than the person in the sphere of the round-the-clock driving. But as they began to take part in the organization of the Olympic Games of 2020 and the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, they decided to suspend this process. The need of creation of the car for elderly people and physically disabled people became justification.
The technological companies, which are known thanks to cooperation with Google and Apple, also decided to contribute to the automobile industry, employing experts in cars. That plans for the creation of such cars became a reality, though not less than five years are required.
The former professor from MIT Gill Pratt was appointed as the CEO of Toyota Research Institute. He told that the competition in the creation of computer-controlled cars only began, but also the set of the obstacles regarding safety appeared. Perhaps, at the beginning of production, not everyone will be in the best position. However, it is impossible to tell who will win at the existing deal.
The new firm on the production of cars plans to engage about 200 employees; it seeks to accelerate development of scientific research in the field of artificial intelligence and the large volume of data – the car maker declared.
According to the head of Toyota, if to unite cars of all countries and to count the number of kilometers, which they ran, it will be about 1 trillion kilometers. During each trip, they give the huge volume of information on the vehicle, the environment, and the driver. Such information can be used to bring benefit to people around. It will help to take a big step in the scientific process too.
