It seems that the process of transition to cars with the function of automatic driving is inevitable. People begin to speak about computer-controlled vehicles even more often. But what brand will steer the market in this case?
When the situation concerns advanced technologies, the main issue, which interests most of producers and people who would like to use such type of the car, is safety. People for certain wouldn’t like to appear in the car, which can sharply change the direction any minute. Therefore, developers are under pressure, which forces them to use the best efforts, which will help them to create reliable and safe, but at the same time the effective car.
To help to create the car capable of ensuring the maximum safety without the driver, the National scientific fund gave the university in Buffalo and its partners who participate in probes of automatic cars, remuneration of $1.2 million. This sum will help to create the special experimental platform on which many cars with automated management can be tested.
The project was created led by Chunming Qiao, which is one of the professors of the university. Partner organizations from other institutes joined it.
This award will promote safety in creating the innovative work in University in Buffalo. UB already has a big contribution in steering, traffic, and production of wireless networks. This research will help with the further probe under the name iCAVE2. This probe assumes synchronization with the gadget having sensors and other tools for tracking of the device. Probes will be made on a road fragment in the Northern part of the university. The platform integrates the leading UB technologies, which will allow users to interact with cars. The road, which will be used on a campus of the university, is the ideal place as it has a smooth surface and is located far from the main congestion of people.
‘The probe is planned at the research enterprise of Buffalo that works to make systems of traffic cleverer, safer, and technological’ – the dean of UB School of Technical science said. It also will give the base for cooperation with non-profit organizations and other companies. The technologies used when testing will create virtual scenarios for record of reactions of cars at various changes of the system.
