Two companies, Baidu and NVIDIA, are long-time partners. According to NVIDIA’s co-founder & CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, they started the mutual investments in the area of AI more than 6 years ago, even before many in the Silicon Valley did. Baidu and NVIDIA are two giants in the world of Artificial Intelligence that now have the technical expertise, capabilities, and skills, and they make them merge together to create totally different option of a passenger vehicle: safe and self-driven car that would zero the road accidents with human casualties.
Their mutual solution will be an end-to-end one, a car that will receive HD-quality maps of the surrounding terrain from the computing cloud that is far beyond simply storing the data there.
The cloud technology hosts the self-learning ‘brain’ that absorbs the data received from all vehicles connected to it, educates itself on the road behavior, and also produces the constantly updated map of the environment in the HD quality to make the driving experience better for people and to make vehicles more automated during performance of routine tasks.
The technology is collaboratively worked out by companies and it shall result in the single tier between the AI-supercomputer that is installed in a car, cloud brain that processes big data, AI algorithms inside, 3D HD map of the environment and all kinds of sensors of a vehicle. They see this tier as the big knot that results in wide spreading of autonomous cars that will be available for:
• People with partial disabilities
• People that don’t or can’t drive a car now because of other reasons including fear to get into a road accident.
In addition, this will not only contribute to lowering the level of fatal road accidents but will literally be able to prevent all of them if all drivers in the world will use this technology.
Mr. Huang tells that he wants other companies to connect to their network that he proclaims will be open for everybody not only in China but globally.
